The Effects of Psychological Impairments and Negative Symptoms on the Long-term Prognosis of Schizophrenia

Abstract

|
To clarify the phenomenological factors that determine the long-term prognosis of schizophrenia, the author applied Diagnostic and Prognostic Schedule, Psychological Impairment Rating Schedule and Scale for the Assessment of Negative symptoms to the 148 schizophrenic patients. The patients were divided in three groups as good prognostic group(11), poor prognostic group(52), and the worst prognostic group(85) by the item of long-term prognosis of the Diagnostic and Prognostic Schdule. To investigate the differentiating features among three prognostic groups, the author tried t-test using SPSS/PC^(+) based on the scores of each items.
Among the results that we found, the most prominent features of the worst prognostic group were diffculties in communication with others and the presence of the negative symptoms.
